Blocking Calls & Texts
Blocking a number, handling calls outside your hours, and the difference between blocking someone and them opting out.
On this page
1Controlling what reaches you
Not every call and text should get through, and not every hour is a working hour. ClientTether gives you three controls: blocking specific numbers, after-hours handling, and the phone menu callers hear.
2Blocking a number
A contact can be marked Blocked on their profile, which stops calls and texts from that number reaching you. Related controls on the same profile: Mark as Wrong Number for a number that belongs to someone else, and OK to SMS?, which is consent rather than blocking — see Texting (SMS).
Blocking is not the same as opting out
Blocking stops them reaching you. A contact who asked to stop hearing from you needs OK to SMS? switched off and, for email, a genuine unsubscribe. Confusing the two is how compliance complaints start.
3After hours
Calls arriving outside your operation hours can be routed to a different number or to voicemail, so nobody’s mobile rings at midnight and no caller hears silence. The handling, the greeting and the phone menu are all configured on Settings → Operation, using tokens for first name, last name and company name where you want the message personalised.
4What hours affect
Operation hours don’t only route incoming calls. Delayed automated messages are held until you’re open and then released — in practice the action moves forward hour by hour until it’s inside your hours, up to a week ahead. Which messages this applies to is set on Action Plan Settings.
5Troubleshooting
A blocked number still gets through
They’re calling from a different number. Block that one too, or take it up with your carrier.
Calls go to voicemail during the day
Check the day’s hours and any active holiday or out-of-office date in Operation Settings.
