Proposal Invoices & Payments
How quote subtotal becomes grand total becomes amount due — and where the money shows up afterwards.
On this page
1From quote to money
The Invoice tab on a proposal is where the totals resolve into what the customer owes and what they’ve paid. It reads, top to bottom:
| Line | What it is |
|---|---|
| Quote Subtotal | The worksheet total before tax and adjustments. |
| Quote Total | The quoted figure including tax. |
| Change Order | The net of any change orders raised after signing. |
| Discount | Anything taken off. |
| Grand Total | What the job is worth in the end. |
| Payments | Money recorded against the job so far. |
| Amount Due / Remaining Balance | What’s still owed — the number the Jobs Board turns red when the job is marked complete. |
2Recording payments
Payments can be recorded by hand as they arrive, or taken online through TetherPay, in which case they’re recorded automatically. Either way they reduce the remaining balance and show on the Jobs Board against the job. Deposit and progress percentages set in Proposal Settings determine what’s asked for and when.
3Emailing the invoice
The invoice can be emailed to the customer directly from this tab, so the document they receive matches what ClientTether is tracking — no separate spreadsheet, no divergence.
4Into your accounts
With QuickBooks connected, marking a proposal’s contact Closed or Completed creates the matching invoice in QuickBooks under the same name and number, creating the customer and any missing products, and payments recorded in ClientTether are posted against it. See QuickBooks Online Integration.
Red balances are the ones to work
On the Jobs Board, a balance due shown in red means the job is marked completed and money is still outstanding. Filtering the board by UnPaid is the fastest collections list you’ll get.
5Troubleshooting
The grand total doesn’t match the quote
A change order or a discount is applied. Read the lines above Grand Total.
A payment isn’t showing
It was recorded against a different proposal on the same contact. Check which proposal is set as active on the opportunity.
