Text Editor

The rich-text editor behind emails, notes, templates and proposals — what it can do, and the one thing never to paste into it.

1Where the editor appears

The same rich-text editor is used everywhere ClientTether takes formatted writing: emails, the whiteboard, history notes, templates, hosted pages, proposal blocks and CT Sign documents.

It is not used for text messages. SMS is plain text by nature and can’t carry HTML formatting — see Texting (SMS).

2Text and style

  • Font size and style, and block styles — headings, paragraph, quotes.
  • Emphasis: bold, italics, underline, strike-through and highlight.
  • Indent and outdent, and alignment.

3Structure and media

  • Horizontal lines, ordered and unordered lists.
  • Tables — the way to build a structured HTML email.
  • Links, block quotes and images.
  • Video — usable on hosted pages, but not in emails: video files are far too large to send. Link to the video with a thumbnail image instead. See Email Open Rates.

The editor box can be resized, and there’s an HTML view if you’d rather work in the markup directly.

Don’t paste from Word

Pasting from a word processor carries hidden markup that breaks layouts — in emails, in proposals and especially in CT Sign documents. Type into the editor, or paste as plain text and format here.

4Tokens in the editor

Anywhere the editor appears, tokens can be inserted to merge the contact’s own details into the text. Pick them from the token list rather than typing them, so the spelling is always right.
